I love America. Do you know why? Where in the world can you find a woman registering her dog to vote? Jane Balogh, 66, did just that last year. And she paid the price for it. Last week, the woman from Seattle agreed to pay a $250 fine and perform 10 hours of communityservice to avoid being prosecuted. Se will also be on probation for a year.
Balogh was charged in June after elections workers realized that she had registered her Australian shepherd-terrier, Duncan, as a voter, including his paw print on the application. She even put her dog’s name on an application and signed a declaration attesting her pet could vote. The worst is: the application was approved and Duncan the dog got ballots. Jane Balogh did not vote for her dog but told the police she had registered Duncan as an act of “civil disobedience”. I wonder, whom Duncan would have voted for. Who is the politician in this country with the best track record for dogs? I am not sure but do you know that here is a lobby for dog owners? The group has endorsed quite a few politicians in California but criticizes politician superstars such as Gavin Newsom, the Mayor of San Francisco, for being anti-dogs. Ducan probably knows that, doesn’t he?

Les ennuis de Jane Balogh ont débuté en juin dernier quand l’administration s’est rendue compte de la supercherie. La grand-mère de Seattle avait mis l’empreinte de la patte de Ducan, son terrier australien. Elle avait même mis son nom sur une facture de téléphone pour lui donner une preuve d’identité et avait signé une déclaration attestant que Ducan pouvait voter. Le pire, c’est que la demande du chien a été acceptée et qu’il a reçu ses papiers de vote. Jane Balogh n’a pas voté pour Ducan mais a acccepté à la police qu’elle avait fait cela pour protester contre la procédure d’inscription sur les listes électorales. Je me demande pour qui Duncan aurait voté. Y’a-t-il des politiciens pro-chiens aux Etats-Unis? Apparemmentoui. Les chiens ont en tout cas leur groupe de pression. Selon cette association, il y a effectivement des politiciens pro-chiens et anti-chiens ici. Parmi les élus montrés du doigt par les lobbyistes pour leur action contre les canins, Gavin Newsom, le populaire maire de San Francisco. Duncan le sait probablement, n’est-ce pas?
