Barack Obama, Superman and me

It has been while. I should first start this post by apologizing for not having written in the last two months. I have been very busy focusing on http://www.tpinews.com, my news website. This post is like a new start to this blog. I am in Des Moines, Iowa. It is freezing cold here. In the past two days, I have covered the major presidential candidates’ rallies. I have seen them swear that they would take the country in a new direction. But in the last few hours before the Iowa caucuses, it all comes to this: who can bring the biggest star to Des Moines? Hillary Clinton brought Bill. John Edwards countered with the actress Madeleine Stowe and singer John Mellencamp. The former reverend campaigned with the everlasting Chuck Norris. But the winner is : Barack Obama. The senator from Illinois appeared in Des Moines tonight with Superman himself, local boy Brandon Routh.   As Obama was about to address a crowd in a high school, Mitt Romney wrapped up his campaign with his wife Ann. “It is cold in Iowa tonight but you have warmed our heart”, Mrs Romney said. What a love declaration! Her husband added a bit later: “We love our president, who has kept us safe these last six years”. Ce début 2008 me donne l’occasion de prendre un nouveau départ avec mon blog.Je suis à Des Moines, Iowa. Ces deux derniers jours j’ai suivi les principaux candidats. Je les ai vu promettre un changement de direction pour les Etats-Unis. Discours classique de campagne électorale. Mais à quelques heures du caucus de l’Iowa qui ouvre la saison des élections primaires pour la présidentielle de novembre, la bataille se résume à l’entourage des candidats. Hillary a fait venir Bill dans l’Iowa. John Edwards a contré en s’entourant de l’actrice Madeleine Stowe et du chanteur John Mellencamp. Coup de coeur ou coup de boule pour Mike Huckabee. L’ancien pasteur baptiste a fait campagne avec Chuck Norris. Le pauvre sénateur Chris Dodd, scotché à 2% dans les sondages, s’est affiché le 31 décembre en compagnie d’une vingtaine de porcs destinés à être vendus sur un marché. Mais la victoire revient sans aucun doute à Barack Obama qui a pu compter sur Superman en personne, Brandon Routh.   Alors que le sénateur de l’Illinois s’apprêtait à s’adresser à ses supporters dans un collège de Des Moines, le républicain Mitt Romney a conclu sa campagne avec sa compagne Ann à West Des Moines. “Il fait froid dans l’Iowa ce soir mais vous avez réchauffé nos coeurs”, a lancé cette dernière. Belle déclaration d’amour! Son mari a ajouté quelques minutes plus tard: “Nous aimons notre président qui nous a protégé ces six dernières années”. Comme dirait l’humoriste français Tex, “quand t’as dit ça, t’as tout dit”.
